Belmopan police have detained retired police officer, 53-year-old Hilbert Castillo, after police found 1.05 kilograms of cocaine when they searched his pickup truck as he was leaving the Police Academy on Wednesday evening, November 17.
Reports are that Castillo had been socializing with former colleagues at the Academy earlier, but his vehicle was searched after he had left the training school compound.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams explained to the media that Castillo had retired several years before. Williams also challenged the allegation that the cocaine was part of the 1800 pounds of cocaine found in a drug plane in the Bladden area of the Toledo district last week. He explained that the drugs found in this incident is suspected to be part of a wet drop which happened near Dangriga.
