Belize Association of Houston Marks 44th Independence Anniversary with Texas Governor’s Recognition

The Belize Association of Houston is celebrating Belize’s 44th Independence Anniversary with official greetings from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, highlighting the strong connections between the Belizean community in Texas and the Lone Star State.

In his letter, Governor Abbott recalled the historic moment of Belize’s independence on September 21, 1981, noting, “On September 21, 1981, the face of the world was forever changed when Belize declared independence from the United Kingdom. Through the years, Belize and the United States of America have forged a close relationship with a spirit and vision that unite our peoples.” He also recognized the contributions of Belizeans in Texas, stating, “Our strong national ties have carried over to Texas where Belizean communities have played a vital role in our state’s cultural, economic, and social landscape. As you gather to celebrate this milestone, I extend my appreciation for your invaluable contributions to the prosperity of Texas.”

The Belize Association of Houston is encouraging the community to participate in gatherings and reflections on Belizean heritage leading up to September 21. These activities will strengthen community pride and foster continued collaboration between Belize and Texas.

The Belize Association of Houston is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and promoting Belizean culture while supporting the diaspora in the Greater Houston area.
