Belize Passport Ranks 50th Globally in Latest Henley Index

Belize's passport ranks 50th in the world in the latest Henley Passport Index, published on July 16, placing it among 199 passports assessed for global travel freedom and marking a modest improvement over last year.

The 2026 Henley Passport Index, released by Henley & Partners on July 16, ranks passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without obtaining a visa before departure. Belize received a global access score of 100, giving Belizean passport holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 100 destinations and placing the country 50th worldwide.

The report's historical rankings show Belize's passport has experienced a gradual decline over the past two decades, despite recent signs of improvement.

Between 2006 and 2009, Belize consistently ranked 42nd globally. The country's ranking then fell to 50th in 2010 and 53rd in both 2011 and 2012 before improving to 46th in 2013 and 44th in 2014.

That recovery was followed by a sharp drop to 56th in 2015. Belize remained in the mid-50s for much of the following decade, reaching its lowest position of 59th in 2021.

Since then, the country's ranking has improved, rising to 52nd in 2022, slipping to 54th in both 2023 and 2024, improving to 49th in 2025, and settling at 50th in the latest 2026 report.

According to Henley & Partners, the index compares 199 passports against 227 travel destinations. A passport receives one point for each destination where entry is permitted without a prior visa, including countries offering visa-free entry, visas on arrival, visitor's permits or electronic travel authorizations. Destinations requiring a visa before departure receive no points. The total number of qualifying destinations determines each passport's global access score and ranking.

The report ranks passports solely on those access scores. Where multiple passports achieve the same score, they share the same ranking.

Singapore topped the 2026 rankings with visa-free access to 192 destinations. Belize's score of 100 placed it 50th globally, alongside the middle tier of passports measured in this year's index.
