Belize Post Resumed U.S. Shipments January 7

The Belize Postal Service (BPS) has announced that all outbound mail and packages to the United States resumed on January 7, 2026, following a temporary suspension that began in August 2025.

The suspension was put in place after the United States Government enacted Executive Order 14324, which removed the long-standing duty-free threshold for international shipments. As a result of the new rule, all packages entering the United States, regardless of their value, are now subject to customs duties and taxes.

To meet these new requirements and ensure continued access to U.S. markets, BPS will now process shipments using the Universal Postal Union’s Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) Global Solution. Under this system, duties and taxes will be calculated and collected before packages are shipped, allowing for faster customs clearance, clearer shipping costs, and fewer delays or returned items.

BPS said the move will improve reliability and predictability for customers while ensuring full compliance with U.S. regulations. The new process is also expected to benefit Belizean businesses, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises, by allowing them to continue serving customers in the United States without interruption.

Postmaster General Dr. Marsha Price said the change reflects BPS’s commitment to secure and globally compliant postal services. She noted that the adoption of the DDP system strengthens Belize’s participation in international e-commerce and thanked the public for its patience during the transition period.

Customers are advised to visit any Belize Postal Service branch or contact customer service for information on the new process, including duties, taxes, and required shipping documents. BPS reaffirmed its commitment to connecting Belize with the world in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner.
