Chicken Prices Increase Again

Belizeans will now have to pay more for chicken after the Belize Poultry Association (BPA) announced an immediate increase in poultry prices.

According to a press release issued by the association, the price of whole chicken has increased by 12 cents per pound, effective immediately. The BPA also said that prices for other poultry products, including different chicken cuts and processed items, will also increase, with the amount depending on the specific product.

The association said the adjustment was necessary because of the rising cost of production. In its statement, the BPA explained that producers are facing higher prices for the inputs needed to raise chickens, making it difficult to keep prices unchanged.

Industry officials say the biggest cost increases have come from poultry feed ingredients such as corn and soybean, as well as fuel and premixes used in production.

These higher operating costs have continued to place pressure on poultry farmers across the country.

This is the second increase in the price of whole chicken this year. In March 2026, the BPA raised the price by six cents per pound. With the latest adjustment, the total increase for whole chicken in 2026 now stands at 18 cents per pound.

Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize also shows that chicken prices had already been rising before the latest increase. In May 2026, the average price of whole chicken was $3.33 per pound, up from $3.22 during the same month in 2025. Prices for chicken cuts, legs and wings also increased over the same period.
