Ex-Convict Charged After Elderly Woman Bludgeoned to Death in London Village

A man with a history of criminal convictions is back in police custody, this time facing a murder charge after the brutal killing of an elderly woman in London Village, a few miles ahead of Santa Martha.

Police say 48-year-old Eugene Lloyd Ramirez of Taylor’s Alley, who previously served time for burglary and was jailed in 2019 for violating parole, is accused of bludgeoning Esthel Trapp to death inside her home.

Investigators report that Ramirez twice called police in the early hours of Friday morning, first around 3:00 a.m. and again at 5:30 a.m., claiming he had argued with a woman and killed her, even providing his location.

Around 7:15 a.m., officers responded to #50 Old Northern Highway, about five miles from Santa Martha, where Ramirez, employed as a caretaker, directed them to the scene. Inside the wooden residence, police found Trapp’s lifeless body, dressed in a white floral nightgown and covered with a purple sheet. She was lying face up on the bedroom floor with blood visible around her head.

A metal hammer, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the home. The body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where Dr. Jair Osorio officially pronounced Trapp dead at 11:11 a.m.

According to the victim’s daughter, Daisey Smith, Ramirez was hired as a groundskeeper on the farm.

Police say Ramirez has been detained and will be charged with murder as investigations continue.
