The Ministry of Health is prepared to address any monkeypox outbreak, Minister of Health Hon. Kevin Bernard affirmed this week. The Ministry has ensured that surveillance systems are in place and that Belize is ready to respond swiftly if needed.
Speaking with the media, Bernard explained that there is sufficient capacity in-country to test for the disease. He also noted that the Ministry has a stock of monkeypox vaccines available as a precautionary measure, aligning with recommendations from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
Bernard emphasized that the Ministry is not raising alarms but remains vigilant. He expressed strong confidence in the Ministry's readiness, stating that they are fully equipped to handle any situation that might arise.
“I am very confident that our people at the ministry are prepared and ready. … We at the ministry…are ensuring that we keep everything ready so that if there's any need, we are going to be prepared enough to be able to address whatever issue that may come.”
The Minister assured that ongoing monitoring and preparedness efforts are key to protecting public health in Belize.
