Marine Exports See Boost in August 2025

Belize’s export earnings for August 2025 showed little movement overall, with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) reporting that the only major commodity to register a notable increase was marine products.

According to the SIB, revenue from marine exports climbed by $1.3 million, rising from $4.5 million in August 2024 to $5.7 million this year. The growth was largely fueled by higher international sales of lobster meat, a leading foreign exchange earner for Belize.

Marine products, which also include shrimp, conch, whole lobster, and other fish species, have long been staples of Belize’s export sector. However, in recent years the industry has faced challenges such as the collapse of the farmed shrimp industry and and increasing competition in global seafood markets.

Despite these hurdles, lobster remains a highly valued commodity, with consistent demand in the United States and Europe. The recent uptick in earnings suggests a rebound for the sector, which contributes significantly to the livelihoods of coastal communities and small-scale fishers across the country.
