Mrs. Melissa Balderamos Mahler, Senior Counsel and respected attorney-at-law, has been sworn in as a temporary Justice of Appeal. The oath of office was administered this week at the Belize House in Belmopan by the Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam. Her appointment will run from September 1 to October 31, 2025.
Balderamos Mahler was admitted to practice law in Belize in 2002 and has since built a distinguished career in civil litigation, commercial and banking law, real property law, and estates. She is widely recognized for her detailed legal work and strong courtroom advocacy, especially in estate disputes.
While experienced in litigation, she is also a strong supporter of alternative dispute resolution. She has served as an arbitrator and mediator in several matters, earning particular recognition for her expertise in family law, matrimonial disputes, and inter-country adoptions under the Hague Convention.
Balderamos Mahler has also played a leading role in developing intellectual property law in Belize, advising clients on registration and enforcement of rights, and working with the Customs Department on anti-counterfeit initiatives.
Beyond her legal work, she serves as the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Belize.
