PACT and Belize Fund Join Forces to Protect Belize’s Natural Resources

Two of Belize’s leading conservation organizations, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) and the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future (Belize Fund), have signed an agreement to work together in protecting the country’s natural environment. This partnership will improve how money is raised and used to care for Belize’s protected areas.

The agreement, called a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), will last for five years. It focuses on joint efforts to raise funds, create common conservation policies, and work closely with local communities and international partners. The two groups will also host a National Conservation Summit later this year to raise awareness and support for conservation work.

“Today is a powerful statement… that protecting our environment and ensuring a sustainable future for our people is not just a priority—it is an obligation,” said Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management.

Dr. Leandra Cho-Ricketts, Executive Director of the Belize Fund, explained that by working together, the two organizations can make a bigger impact. “This partnership aligns with our mission to invest in Belize’s marine and conservation priorities,” she said.

Mr. Abil Castañeda, Executive Director of PACT, shared that both organizations have already contributed over BZ$64 million to conservation projects in Belize. “Through this agreement, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting Belize’s natural heritage and supporting communities who help care for it,” he said.

Belize’s National Protected Areas System includes forests, marine reserves, and cultural sites that are important for wildlife, people, and the environment.
