'Shyne' Barrow takes UDP leadership with razor-thin lead over Panton

Mesopotamia Area Representative Hon. Moses "Shyne" Barrow is the new leader of the United Democratic Party.

Barrow secured 256 votes, narrowly defeating his opponent Hon. Tracy Taegar Panton, who secured 253 votes.

Taegar Panton's camp had called for a recount, given the slim margin of defeat. However, Party Chairman Michael Peyrefitte said that since neither candidate had any complaints about the voting process, the decision stands.

Barrow said earlier today that the UDP must leave the convention on a unified front to prepare for the next general election and committed himself to work on bringing the party together in the aftermath of the decision
