UDP Leader Sets Internal Reform as First Order of Business

Hon. Tracy Panton says comprehensive internal restructuring will be the UDP’s immediate focus, beginning with constitutional reform aimed at preventing future governance breakdowns within the party.

Panton stated that the party’s first priority is strengthening its internal framework to avoid a repeat of the recent leadership turmoil. She emphasized that no single chairman or leader should again be able to override institutional safeguards or dismantle party mechanisms. The reform process, she said, is intended to ensure accountability, stability, and inclusivity in how party decisions are made.

She explained that the National Party Council is being reconfigured and the Central Executive Committee reappointed, forming the foundation for the UDP’s internal reset. This recalibration is designed to widen participation, with constituency leaders and delegates given a more defined role in shaping the party’s direction.

Alongside constitutional overhaul, Panton said the UDP will advance motions passed at the national convention, including initiatives to strengthen women’s political leadership and expand youth engagement. These motions, she noted, will be paired with organizational pathways that ensure women and young people have meaningful influence inside the party structure.

To support the party’s policy development, Panton outlined plans to establish specialized committees focused on critical national issues such as education, health, economic development, citizen security, and the cost of living. These committees will craft strategy proposals and generate solutions that the UDP can refine into a coherent national agenda.

Panton said the internal restructuring marks a pivotal stage for the UDP as it works to rebuild public confidence. She added that the party intends to combine organizational discipline with broader engagement to ensure it is better positioned for national leadership in the years ahead.
