In a 1-on-1 interview with 17-year-old Yasmin Ceballos, better known as YasThalia, she told The Reporter
what her experience as a female artist has been along with other details about her journey leading up to the release of her latest single “Tropix”.
Ceballos opened the interview by highlighting inspirations: Beyoncé, Koffee, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish.
YasThalia was further questioned as to whether she drew any inspiration from any local artist. She explained that “there’s some conflict there”. Ceballos elaborated that being a female in a male-dominated industry is very difficult. While there is no animosity, and she respects her peers, there have been instances where she was trying to create professional and meaningful collaborations but was greeted with inappropriate interactions.

Such experiences have led her to avoid doing future collaborations at this time.
Toward the middle of the interview, YasThalia revealed to The Reporter that it took about two weeks to write the lyrics for her latest song “Tropix”. This new single is primarily made in homage to Belize and its numerous tourist destinations, which included San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and other stellar destinations.
Toward the end of the interview, Ceballos continued by highlighting another hurdle she continues to face: sponsorship. She told of numerous businesses that outright refused to support her; however, while she was met with a lot of rejections, she wanted to express gratitude to the few that did and continue to support her which include YogoBean and Caves Branch.
Ceballos hopes that the release of more music will help garner attention and that other businesses would consider collaborating with her.
YasThalia is “up in the tropics” and she’s the “hot topic”.
