Toddler Perishes in Early Morning Blaze

Belize City police are investigating a tragic fire that claimed the life of a 4-year-old girl early Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Kiara Bennett, who was reportedly asleep beside her mother when flames engulfed their home on Arlington Drive around 4:30 a.m. on September 16, 2025.

According to police, when they arrived on the scene, the second floor of the two-storey house was already fully ablaze. Preliminary reports indicate that a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the building and alerted Jowel Guerra, a Belizean customer care representative. Guerra, who had been sleeping upstairs, managed to escape the inferno but her daughter was unable to get out.

The fire completely destroyed the residence. Scenes of Crime Technicians later recovered the child’s charred remains.

Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
