Belize Police Department Rolls Out Online Criminal Record Application System

For decades, applying for a “police record” meant standing in long lines at police stations across the country. The document, officially known as a record of conduct, is a standard requirement for job applications, scholarships, professional licenses, and even some travel processes. But for many, especially those in rural communities, the process was time-consuming, costly, and inconvenient.

That is now changing. The Belize Police Department, through its Criminal Records Registry (CRR) and under the Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, has officially rolled out an online application system that allows Belizeans to apply for their police record from anywhere with internet access.

The new platform, accessible at www.crr.gov.bz, went live a few months ago and has already begun easing the pressure on police stations. Applicants fill out an electronic form, submit the required information, and can then choose whether to receive their record as a secure digital copy by email or as a printed version collected at a police station of their choice.

According to ministry officials, the system was designed with user-friendliness in mind. It includes a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to walk citizens through common queries such as payment methods, processing times, and requirements for first-time applicants.

Rural residents are expected to benefit most, as they will no longer need to travel long distances to the nearest police station to initiate the process. Employers and institutions that regularly request police records have also welcomed the change, noting that digital verification reduces waiting time and allows for quicker recruitment and admissions processes.

Officials confirmed that while the online system is now fully operational, traditional in-person applications remain available for those who may not have access to the internet.

The rollout of the Criminal Records Registry system is the latest government institution to roll out e-government services, joining online tax payments, land registry services, and certain civil registry functions.
